Oh, I love my kitchen gadgets but I also like to keep it reasonable when it comes to shopping. It’s so easy to get carried away with all the shiny toys but let’s get ourselves some good quality at a sensible price. Here are some of the gadgets I use in my every day cooking (and some that I yearn for!) that I thought you might find useful.
I make all my own sauces and salad dressings so this blender is going all the time in my kitchen. It’s a great quality for the price and if you’re hard on your appliances like I am, no worries – it takes a beating!
This spiralizer is the best appliance you can buy for your healthy eating. Carrots, zucchini, sweet potatoes – the list is endless. This will make great pasta and beautiful salads. Zucchini noodles rock!
Such a handy little tool. Like everything else, the price of avocados has gone up so when I’m slicing mine open I want it right the first time. (And the camera catches every little bump and miss!) The slicer removes the fruit from the skin in perfectly even slices. Cool!
Ok, so these herb scissors were a bit of an indulgence but not really at such a sensible price. I love to add my fresh herbs to sauces by cutting them over the pot straight into the food so this is perfect for that. Especially herbs like parsley which are best added at the end. If you’re a ‘clean as you go’ kind of cook like I am, you’ll not want to dirty another cutting board. You don’t want to use your kitchen scissors on herbs either – you don’t know what the kids have cut up with them! Especially great for garnishing. I LOVE my cast iron pans. I love that they are versatile and you can use high heat without worry. I love that they are healthier to cook in. I love that they transfer to the oven so easily and I LOVE that they photograph so beautifully. And I know you’re shooting all your dishes, right? In this age of selfies, everything is being recorded! If you don’t have a set of pans, it’s time. They’re simply the best. Universal Housewares Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron 3 Piece Skillet Set
This one is enamel-coated for easier clean up. Loving it!

When it comes to kitchen hygiene your choice of baster is important and I like these ones because of the following:
- Made of FDA silicone with a steel core inside and BPA free – there is nothing to break so the bristle head can’t fall off. Stiffness for the handle is provided by a rod molded inside the handle.
- ONE piece of silicone design – NO crevices where oil or egg white or barbecue sauce or whatever can seep in & be trapped to breed germs. Makes it VERY easy to clean.
Is there anything better than enamel cast iron? This easy to clean dutch oven is great for soups and stews and is a great price from one of the premier companies. I don’t own this one yet but it’s on my wish list!
A friend of mine gave this chopper to me just after my divorce when I was cooking for just me. If chopping onions is difficult for you or you just don’t have the time or patience this is your answer to quick meals like a stir-fry .
This mini food processor is the perfect size for little jobs like a small dish of salsa or a quick hummus. It’s small enough that it’s not an inconvenience to have on the counter and the price is unbeatable!
This gadget I found on WTFGadgets.com will be on my list to Santa next Christmas. My food processor is beaten up and dying a slow death so it may not make it till then. This is a beauty and in my opinion, worth every penny. These are the kind of appliances that have turned me into a kitchen gadget addict!
One of my favorite cookbooks to date. I will be buying more of Yotam Ottolenghi’s books and will list them here once I do.
