This is a quick little post on a super easy meal that you’ll want to consider putting into your rotation. Do you buy deli ham each week for your kids’ sandwiches? I know it may be more convenient but the latest studies on sodium nitrite can’t be ignored. This preservative may prevent your meat from going bad but it also damages cells and morphs into molecules that cause cancer. Definitely time to cook our own sandwich meat and a slow cooker is the super easy way to do just that!
Just 4 hours on high in the slow cooker will give you all the ham you need for sandwiches and you can use leftovers for soup, pasta and even a quiche. You’re going to get a much better quality meat and it will be less expensive this way as well. And you can slice and freeze any remaining for sandwiches the following week – win/win right?
The ham is super moist and by cooking it with 1/4 cup of pure maple syrup, you can add a little bit of healthy sweetness as well.
These pics were taken on the fly so bear with me, ha! When people are hungry, you have to get out of the way!
You can do this with roast beef, turkey, and chicken as well. If you’re at home on a Sunday afternoon or evening a few hours in the slow cooker is going to save you time and money. It will also give you the reassurance that you’re serving your kids a healthy lunch each day. Cheers!
