Tuesday Tidbits (No.44)

Winter is here and the countdown to Christmas has begun!  We don’t have any snow here but I’m not complaining.  Usually we’re buried in at least a foot of snow at this time of year.  Let’s get on to our fun Tuesday Tidbits because I have a couple of gorgeous dishes to share with you.   Before I forget, this will be the last tidbits for this year.  I’ll start up again in January once I’ve had time to catch my breath from the busy holiday season 🙂

Creamy Potato and Leek Soup   |   Delicious Meets Healthy

This amazing soup is from the talented Neli at Delicious Meets Healthy.  I love that she made it without cream but still gives it that luscious creamy texture by pureeing the potatoes – genius!  So it’s dairy-free, gluten-free and only takes 30 minutes to make.  Score on every level!

Take a little something to sip on when you go to Neli’s site because you’re going to be there awhile.  There is no end to her unique recipes and the photography is stunning!  Thanks for sharing today, Neli  🙂

Quiche

Quiche with Leeks, Thyme and Goat Cheese  |  Natural Girl Modern World

I must be in a mood for leeks lately because this dish really had me excited as well.  The crust is made of fresh oat flour and toasted sesame seeds – can you just imagine the flavors?!  Fresh thyme with sauteed leeks, goat cheese and spinach is a heavenly combination and I’m definitely needing a break from the heavier food of winter.  So light and scrumptious!

I stumbled across Brianne’s beautiful blog a few weeks ago and was immediately taken with it for a few reasons – she’s vegetarian, she takes gorgeous photos and she lives in BC.  You will be visiting again and again once you experience her wholesome, healthy dishes.  Thank you, Brianne for a peek into your world!

And if you’re a lover of seafood paella…..

I love it when I come across helpful tips for helping you make your food last longer.  Wastage of any kind is a big pet peeve of mine and Awesome Inventions has a list of 21 Brilliant Tips that you have to see!

I love this idea to save your fresh herbs.  I grow a lot of my own but I’m afraid I don’t have great success and have more dead than alive, ha!  But I do know how to make ice cubes!

Storing potatoes with apples will stop the potatoes from sprouting due to the apple giving off ethylene gas.  Brilliant! Click here for more helpful info.

I’m a big fan of unique architecture so was immediately drawn to these interesting sets of stairs but I’m wondering – would you want these in your house? They’d be interesting to climb in the dark….or in heels!

You definitely don’t want to have one too many glasses of wine with dinner!

Raphel-Why-Adults-Are-Buying-Coloring-Books-1200-630

Did you know that there are coloring books for adults?  This was news to me and I’m really excited to check them out!  I miss the time I used to spend coloring with my nephews when they were younger.  It was a quiet time to chat and relax and discover more about them and it was great to just chill out with them.

Recent studies show that coloring as an adult can:

  • Improve your concentration
  • Unleash your creativity
  • Your brain treats it like meditation
  • Chill out anywhere, any time
  • Improve your motor skills
  • Release your negative thoughts
  • Decrease your anxiety and stress

So I think it’s time to pick up my crayons and get back to some coloring!  Check out the link to read more.

And what better thing to get rid of stress than dancing your way into the day?  This will get you started with a smile!

And if you’re looking for something spectacularly different in architecture, here’s a little property that you’ll either fall in love with or leave in a hurry!  I can’t decide what I’d do.  What about you?

I would totally kill myself going up or down those stairs! Hahaha!
I’ve been loving coloring! I usually take out my old coloring books this time of year anyway (before this new fad), but it is so relaxing!

Good Morning Robyn! Well, it’s morning for me anyway. 🙂
I’m movin to that dance video you shared while I write this, I needed some get up and go. Lol
Great Tuesday Tidbits! I’ve been out of it and have missed them.
Using the potato puree in that leak soup is a fabulous idea, I will definitely do that with my cream soups.

Those stairs…My husband does finish carpentry in million dollar homes and right now the rage is modern and some quite strange. He has built some of those floating stairs, and let me tell you, it was weird and rather strange using them. I felt unsafe, though maybe it was due to my balance issues, but still… I would run right out and have them built in my home. 🙂 Thank you anyway.
    And that bubble house…that’s different…
Children would have a great time living there.
You always share some unique homes with us and I enjoy seeing what’s really out there.
What happened to the simple little bungalow? 🙂
I’ll take my country cabin in the woods next to the creek where it is quiet and peaceful with much wildlife to enjoy.

As always, I enjoy my visits here with you, Robyn.

    Have a most delightful day!
    Debbie

LOL, glad to hear the music got you moving this morning, my friend! I’m loving the soup too and such a great idea Neli had!
I actually had a home with floating stairs but when we renovated that was the first thing to go. Going down for a glass of milk in the middle of the night was quite an excursion!
I”m with you, Debbie – a beautiful cabin in the woods where I can see wildlife is all that I need. Great to have you visit. Hope your week is off to a wonderful start!

No snow here in Upstate NY but I kinda want a white Christmas!! I have tried that West Coast Paella and it is so good. Those 21 tips for food are great. I can use most of them in my kitchen. Love the look of the stairs but you wouldn’t see me climbing any of them! I put an adult coloring book on my Christmas list! Can’t wait to get one. What a sweet ending with the quotes from children’s books. Going to check those out now.

We’ve been having a lot of leeks lately too! Must be the weather. And you’ve reminded me I really must get a paella pan one of these days. Yes, a large frying pan works — but it doesn’t look all that interesting. Our kitty would probably love those stairs! Us? Not so much. 🙂
